All-new Honda HR-V boasts low running costs

Nice review.
Interesting the smaller wheels get better fuel economy.
I would have thought larger wheels would get better mileage ?
Obviously more differences then diameter.

Fuel economy 71mpg (16in wheels)
69mpg (17in wheels)

Wish we got the engines they are getting over there.

71 miles per gallon?!???

Am I missing something or is that double the mileage in the USA?

Okay I read the article. The 71mpg is on a Diesel engine. Fair enough.

However, it goes on to say that their petrol engine runs on 52 mpg.

Not to mention the NON-hybrid petrol Japanese Vezel ran on 48 mpg.

Meanwhile here in the states, the best we can do is 28/31/35 mpg.

Does big oil have that much of their hand in this or is there another reason we cannot get that kind of European and Japanese gas mileage?

That's 71 miles per imperial gallon (UK)
That would be 59 mpg US, but we don't get the 1.6L diesel

And the gas engine is the new earth dreams 1.5, not the old 1.8 North America is getting.

Ah okay, thanks. But that would still be 43 mpg US for their petrol engine - still way better than what we are getting.

I'm in the market for the diesel. Great torque also, 300 nm, makes overtaking piece of cake.

And with diesel still quite a bit cheaper then petrol over here, it's the obvious choice if you do around 20 to 25.000 km (13 to 16000 miles) a year.
