Can I use 195/55R16 winter tires

Getting a new HR-V AWD and I have a set of 195/55/R16 Nokian Hakkepelitta winter tires on rims that have almost no wear. Wonder if I'll be able to use them on the HR-V in the winter instead of buying new rims and new tires in the 215/55 R17 size

If the lug pattern on the wheels is the same as the HR-V, then yes you can use them. However, these tires/wheels are much smaller/shorter than your stock size, which will affect your speedometer/odometer readings and possibly negatively affect vehicle handling in emergency situations.

TL;DR Yes, but I wouldn't do it.

Thanks, Denny.

Guess I'll have to sell the ones I have and buy another set in the fall.

I agree. The tires are thinner than OEM which means less traction on the floor.

If the rims fit your HRV, you may consider just swapping the tires out for 215/60R16 tires next winter. The Honda dealer sold me and installed 16 inch rims with this size tire (Michelin X-Ice) when I bought my HRV new off the lot. I have yet to use my stock 17 inch wheels and tires.

But Doctor, it's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside...

Good point, and 215/60R16 tires may be less expensive, plus the extra sidewall could help cushion the potholes that occur during the winter.

My winter tire wheel specs are Wheel Width:6.50 in / po Bolt Pattern:5-114.3 mm. I'll have to check if they would fit 215/60R16

Swapped out my 16in winter rims/tires for the stock 17in rims and Michelins today and justrealized they're both the same overall height and diameter.

So my speedo/odo shouldn't really change.

I'm glad here in Hawaii we don't have to worry about winter weather. I can't imagine having 16's on my ride (Joking)
