Navigation Map Update

I received a letter in the mail from Honda concerning a map update for my '16 HRV. Has anybody purchased this and updated their Navigation? I am wondering if they have added anything additional into the nav outside of just new addresses and such. For instance, does it now actually speak the name of the road instead of just saying "turn right in 200 feet".

Also, please keep other navigation options out of the discussion. I really don't care that others use their cell phone or waze or whatever.

Why would you need to purchase this? Aren't nav updates offered for free for a few years with a new vehicle? Seems they are:

The following vehicles come with 5 years of complimentary map updates:

2016 Accord
2016 Civic
2016 Pilot
2017 Ridgeline

It looks like it will cost us $99 if we want to update the nav

US version of HRV does not have Garmin nav? If it does, then it comes with 5 years of free updates according to the above FAQ.

My bad, the Honda web site is not real clear and come to think of it the software does not look like Garmin.

Map Update for 2016 EX-L Navi (US)

I recently received a letter from Honda notifying me of an update for the navigation system. I'm hoping someone here has performed this upgrade, or at least maybe seen the updated system before. What I'd like to learn more about before purchasing (yeah, it's not free):
  • Is there an improvement to the overall look of the maps? Compared to Google maps & nav apps, this looks like crap.
  • Does this make any improvements to the stereo system? My Galaxy S6 Active has only minimal functionality with this system.

I've read through the threads relating to Infotainment system interoperability, with no luck resolving issues.
Thanks!

Here's another thread relevant to that same Nav update, if you're referring to one that's offered for $99.
Navigation Map Update
So far no one is reporting on how that update is working or providing any particular improvements. Maybe no one has wanted to spend the money. I haven't read anywhere that the update is in anyway related to radio features or operability, only navigation functions, to whatever extent that may be.

Thanks Gizmogal, I'll take a look through it. I also plan to call the phone number provided on the letter, to see if anyone can provide me with additional information. I may also stop by a dealer to see if any of the newer models have a newer nav that look different. I'm not holding my breath...

I recently did the map update. As far as I can see, there's no difference in the overall look of the maps. However, something I believe was updated which pleasantly surprised me.
When i would stream music through Bluetooth with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 w/ Android 6, IheartRadio, TuneIn, etc (except for Pandora which is built-in) there was never anything on the display. No artist, Title or anything Since the map update it's all there! Even when playing YouTube, info about he video shows up. Now, is this because of the map update or a recent Android update? I'm not sure but i hadn't noticed it before the map update so i'm going with that.

I've always had artist/media info on screen when streaming from my S7 or iPhones. Still haven't updated my map.
