I traded in my beloved 2013 Subaru Legacy, with 40,000 miles. It was a beautiful car! But I needed more cargo space when driving my kid to college...last spring we had to leave some of his stuff behind because we couldn't fit it into the trunk/back seat. But I don't like driving a large vehicle. The main reason I went with the HRV is that I sometimes sleep in my car. When I drive to kid's college I usually sleep in my car. I drive 8 hours there, drop him off or pack up his stuff, or see his concert or whatever, then sleep a few hours and drive home. It is hard to sleep in the driver's seat of a Legacy, and there is not enough room in the back seat. The HRV is wonderful! Room to sleep in the back, dark tinted windows, moon roof. It's better than a hotel! LOL The only downside to the HRV is the tiny little gas tank. My Legacy got the same estimated mpg, but it had an 18.5 gallon tank. I could drive the whole 8 hours and part of the way home before stopping for gas!

2004 Toyota Echo 2 door hatchback. 200 000km.

It was my first new car and the first car I bought on my own. Love the car. It's been incredible. So reliable and consistent and incredible in the snow, especially since it weighs almost nothing. It was the lowest/cheapest model. Manual window cranks, manual key-in-lock doors, no trunk release, very basic car.

I'm looking forward to the keyless entry, four doors, bigger trunk and the ability to open the passenger side window without leaning across the car and cranking. And no matter how often I read about the 'underpowered' HRV, I have to giggle because I have to turn off the air conditioning to overtake on 2 lane highways in my Echo.

Garage
2004 Civic EX, 5 speed. Sold it with 204,000 miles when I got the HR-V
Was tired of shifting, wanted the new options of today's cars as well as the better interior room.
Civic was as reliable as the day I bought it. Never a repair, just routine maintenance.
Hope the HR-V lasts as well.

1998 Nissan Frontier, 165k miles. Drove this truck for 13 years and loved it, but it was time to upgrade to something from the 21st century. The HRV has been an awesome replacement. I'm very happy with it!

I traded in a 06 Ford Escape with 202000KM's. Hated that vehicle since day 1.
I added up the repairs for last year and those totaled more than a car payment, so it was time for a new one.

2011 CRV with over 100,000 miles. Gave it to my son who just got his license, so he can drive himself and his sister to school. When she gets her license in a few years, he will prolly inherit my mulberrry AWD EX and she will get the CRV! Way better cars than I ever got from my dad (a Pinto and a Chevette! But hey, they were free! Beggars can't be choosers...) I will most likely choose another HRV, really enjoying it so far. Before the 2011 CRV, I had a '98 CRV, '94 Saturn coupe, '91 Geo Storm. All blue, so I just had to get a different color this time!!!
