Hah, I had forgotten that I called it 6 months ago.

If the HRV had the same shifter with a mini center console, which looks like a go-cart shifter, and had the head unit screen this low on the dash, I would have NOT bought my HRV.
These 2 things would have definitely been a deal breaker for me.

I like it. It's definitely better than the 3rd gen CRV's center console.

That shifter location and mini center console. Oh my god, how awful is that? What is Honda thinking?
Reminds me of when I was shopping for a new "car" July 2015. I stopped at a Honda dealer, for the first time in my life. Saw a CRV, sat in it, noticed that shifter and that was it: I immediately stepped out.

Luckily, right next to the CRV was an HRV. I did not know what it was, but it looked really nice. Sat in it and was immediately impressed. 30 minutes later, I was signing papers for an AWD EXL with Nav.

My 03 Civic Si had the shifter on the dash and I LOVED it. This is a stock image of it.

Well, I guess that is why there are 100s of car models.
What is ugly for some is beautiful for others....
Having said that, I am really sorry, but that shifter is one ugly thing. Sorry could not resist.

I like the new radio setup with the quick capacitive buttons on the side to jump between modes. It's so stupid that we have to hit home, wait ages for the animation, then hit radio and wait again.

Ignoring the shifter, the radio/climate controls look much more thought out.

The shifter on the EP3 Civic was a little weird looking for most people at first glance. In practical use tho, it's pretty amazing. Something you'd have to try yourself to make sense of.

As for the new CR-V, I think it looks great.
