2017 cr-v

2017 spotted testing. Should be coming in a 5 and 7-passenger configuration, and is supposedly moving a bit more upmarket/upscale.

Looks good IMO.

Why does the back end look like it is sagging?

The dual exhaust makes me wonder if the 1.5T from the Civic is going to make an appearance under the hood in this car. You can also see what looks to be a front-mounted intercooler peaking out from the lower part of the front bumper, making the 1.5T speculation even stronger.

I think they may use a modified version that produces more HP, perhaps even a different turbo if they've got it. To directly swap in the Civic's 1.5T would mean a downgrade for the CR-V (current engine produces 185hp and I forgot how much torque). With the added weight of the CR-V - especially if it comes in a 7 seat variant - I think 174hp would not be enough.

I read (somewhere) that the Accord and CR-V were getting the 1.5T as their base engine for 2017. Makes sense, it should provide similar (or better) acceleration with improved fuel economy.

By the way, while turbos are highly tunable for more power, even in the current Civic tune the 1.5T will be at least as quick as the current 2.4. That increase in low-end torque makes all the difference. Want proof? Look at the acceleration numbers for the 2015 Civic SI (2.4 in a high state of tune) and the 2016 Civic Touring.

Hondata even strapped the new Civic 1.5T to a dyno and found that Honda might actually be underrating the new engine. On the dyno, the car made about 177hp/190ft-lb at the wheels, which is somewhere around 200hp/215ft-lb at the crank, considerably higher than Honda's 174hp/162ft-lb published numbers. It would explain why the 1.5T is faster in a straight line than the Si.

Better fuel economy, more low-down torque, a wider powerband, and (seemingly) more top-end power to boot. Aside from the unknown reliability angle since this is a newish motor, objectively the 1.5T is absolutely superior to the current 2.4 engine.

I'm wondering when more aftermarket companies start turning up the boost matched with Hondata tuning, what type of numbers will they be putting up.
