2015 HRV Jolting back and forth at certain speeds

Hi All,

I am a long time lover of this forum, read a lot anonymously but could not find what I was looking for so I came to ask my own.

My 2015 HRV is over 130K. When I keep my foot on the accelerator to hover at 60 Km/h, it does a jolting motion. It almost feels like a quick deceleration and acceleration. If I keep ignoring that it does a few more, a couple at a time. If I put it on Cruise and take away my foot, the issue is gone.

I have noticed that it does not do it for the first couple if hours of driving of the day. It happens after 2 or 3 hours. What starts feeling like I have to push the accelerator more and more to get accelerations, ends up with the jolts.

But if I go above 80 Km/h the jolting disappears. At 100 Km/h you can't even tell its not a new car.

I dont know if this is related, sometimes, the engine loses power coming out of parking in an angle. It shows the oil and battery lights and stops. If I stop the car and start it again, it works fine.

I have taken it to a workshop after driving for couple of hours and got a mechanic to drive it. They also agree that there is a certain sluggishness at 60-70 Km/h but the jolts didn't happen. So they couldn't pinpoint the issue. No service was done.

I have not found anywhere any post that has a similar issue. Could you give me any suggestion?

Could be anything from a lean misfire to a CVT heading to the junkyard.

Thanks for the input. I looked up some symptoms and tested them for CVT issues. None found yet.
  1. Brown or Pink liquid leaks, not found
  2. Burning smell, not found
  3. When changing from D to R or R to D, the car takes long time to move, did not happen
  4. Engine slips like the RPM goes very high before the speed catches up, did not happen
  5. I don't know any others, I would be glad to test more.

I was sensing a hesitation at 1500 RPM so parked and recorded a video. Notice how it resists going up after 1500 RPM.

HRV 2015 Engine hesitation.

Next I drove with Sports mode on since that usually keeps the RPM above 2000. The jolting or hesitation didn't happen at all.

I also noticed my Fuel economy is gradually going bad, even before using Sports mode. I never used Sports mode until today.

I graphed Engine RPM and Throttle Position at idle and it seems my Throttle position does a weird back and forth even if I release it. And Engine just follows. I think this is issue because when I am at desired Speed, the RPM goes near this level. So touching the Throttle probably encourages this back and forth behaviour.

the R18 has a unique throttle that will open fully to reduce pumping losses - when you go "off throttle" - instead of closing, it opens fully.
