There's a bunch of threads on here discussing issues with the engine start/stop button. Instead of cleaning the button, it looks like we're now able to go to the dealer and have it replaced for free.

Honda Canada mailed me a warranty extension for this issue. I would think Honda United States is doing the same campaign.

Has anyone else in Canada received the warranty extension letter? I bought my 2016 HRV new in 2015 from a Honda dealer but have not received one.
It was only received yesterday so I would assume yours is in the Canada Post system.

if ever you didn’t get it, it has some info on the top right corner that you can reference with the dealer -

“Campaign No.: O52
February 2021”

I wonder if Honda Canada would be willing to pay back those who replaced the part on their own before this extended warranty noticed came out.
The problem is some of us have diagnosed the problem by reading forums and never got an official diagnosis from a garage/dealer but after changing the part bought at a Honda dealer fixed the problem/symptoms.

Anyone with experience of this happening or not with other Honda warranty extensions?

Honda dealer replaced my push button start! I'd been having intermittent problems starting for at least a year. I thought it was the fob and kept replacing the battery. Last week I received a letter from Honda saying they were extending the warranty to 9 years for the push start (2016-2018 HR-Vs) and would pay for replacing. Even though the dealer could not get it to fail, they replaced it for me.

It's nice to see that in some countries Honda is willing to remedy the fact that the pre-facelift HR-V quality is very poor (and i could come up with some stronger words than "poor" in case of my car)... No such luck for us in Europe. I asked the Czech representative if such case will apply also for Czech Republic, but he said they have to check it with European HQ, so we will see. I am not having much high hopes given my past dealings with Honda customer service and my local dealership...

I've got an answer from Honda Motor Europe Ltd. that this warranty does apply also to European models with condition of 9 years or 180 000 Km. Finally some good news!

Bought my 2017 into service for CVT software programming friday - the keyless light entry light had been on for a few days prior too - and well, they changed out the start button while it was in for service.

Hi there, do you happen to know the reimbursement conditions for this? I have still yet to receive this letter but I paid out of pocket to get the start button replaced 2 years ago. I called Honda and they're claiming that because I did it before the recall came out, I may not be eligible for the reimbursement... which sound like bulls**t.

Thanks

Just contacted Honda UK Customer Services (1 Oct 2021) and they say there is no such recall for UK HRV's. They advised I contact my local dealer to get the problem diagnosed. Customer Service agent used the issue that HRVs sent tot different geographical locations may have different parts in them, I find this a lame excuse as it is highly probable that all HRVS of a certain age have the same general components.

I had the dreaded yellow light indicating a problem with my push to start system when I was 1000 miles from home and alone. Freaked me out. Dealership said I was okay to drive home, but it might not start, oh joy.

Yesterday they replaced the push button, sensor and one other part on the Push to Start system. I have 69,000+ miles on my 2017. There is an extended warranty for HR-V models 2016-2018 on this issue. I had to pay $0

Hi Shilks
Did you manage to get your problem sorted out with Honda. Was it a Honda recall etc. Or did you have to pay for a replacement STOP/SART switch.?
Thanks

@michaeal613 - Thank you for posting your letter! It's the first official documentation I've seen about this switch issue.

I'm in the US, have a 2016 HR-V, and never received a letter. I knew about the diagnosis and remedy for the problem from posts in this Forum. I was told by a dealer that I'd have to pay for replacement since my car's mileage was beyond 125,000 -- which I find to be an arbitrary cut-off point. I tried opened a case with Honda of America and they denied it, again based on the mileage - which I'm now at 155,000. I find it very interesting how Honda seemingly has different guidelines for different countries.

I've considered just buying the part and follow the steps I've seen in a video posted here, but I'm hesitant to do it myself.

I've let the issue go for a long time, but am going to pursue it again as, aside from being super annoying, it really is a safety issue. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
