I bought the car brand new in September 2016. I’ve never had the first problem with it. (160,000 miles) Last Thursday as I’m pulling out of a parking lot, it goes into neutral and has been stuck there. The gear shifter moves just fine through gears but never actually goes into gear. It has fluid and whatever is suppose to move under the hood when you shift, moves. Someone has “looked” at it for me. I know nothing about cars. It’s in line to be looked at but might be a few days. Just curious if anyone has had this problem or knows what could be wrong.

I hate to say it, but sounds like the belt broke in the CVT.

This is my thought as well, and OP is just outside the extended warranty. If your dealership is really nice, they may work with you on that. Dealerships like that seem to be harder and harder to come by though.

OP does not specify CVT trans but, as mentioned in previous posts, that does sound like a CVT trans failure.

OP also does not mention CVT transmission service. Fluid and filter changes.
Also no mention of the CVT trans recall despite 160000 miles.
Also no mention of warning lights on the dash cluster.

CVT trans failure is all too common on the HRV. CVT Transmission Issues (Merged)

Hopefully you brought it to a Honda dealer and you can convince them to help you under the HRV CVT trans recall.

No warning lights other than 5% on oil life. Also no warning lights even after transmission isn’t working.

If the speedometer registers but the car doesn't move when you put it in D, could be a halfshaft disconnected from the transmission. I seen it happen twice on an Accord. If the speedometer doesn't register, most likely transmission.

I did bring it back to the dealer. Recall on the transmission and paint job. They never brought it up but when I did they called someone from service and yes there was a recall. They never said what was wrong. I traded the car in. Got $6,000 for it. Thanks for all your answers 😊. Speedometer did register when we pulled the car there in nuetral. Fun drive lol.

So you got US$6000 on trade in and no CVT trans warranty coverage.
That means about US$5000 actual cash value for your 2016 HRV with 160, 000miles and a failed CVT trans.

The Honda dealer likely said that the CVT trans was not covered by warranty.
I hope you contested that with them and with Honda Customer support.
Due to the high failure rate of the HRV CVT trans and the subsequent Honda recall, I suspect that Honda would have covered the repair.
Despite the fact that the CVT recall only extends the warranty to 150,000 miles.

The value of a 2016 HRV with 160,000miles (say an AWD EX in average shape) is about US$12000 in my area.

I hope the OP put in a reasonable effort for warranty coverage before accepting the dealer's trade in offer.

You can see how the numbers worked for the dealer.

$6k for a 2016 HRV?!?

They seen you coming

I would think $6000 is what I'd expect to get on trade, considering the transmission needed replaced and the mileage. That's about $3000 less than the trade in value if there was no trans issue. Plus we don't know about any other things that would be needed to get the car ready for resale...tires, brakes etc. The Carfax report also would have an effect. The dealer is in business to make a profit not break even. This report is in the area of Pittsburgh, PA so it could vary a little depending on location.
