Could be interesting indeed. IDX perhaps to keep it consistent with ILX? Although I'm not sure if Acura would jump at this considering the RDX is their only in demand model would they really risk that type of demand/profitability in the face of potential cannibalization?

Acura still going with the beak grill which take away any attractiveness an individual model might have.

That the main reason I am looking at Honda. Just don't get why Acura's ugly and bland design language. It is dated compare to the Germans.

Acura's not competing with the germans regardless. Second tier luxury. German designs are sterile, they've fired the design departments and downsized to a Xerox...

Acura's MDX is one of their best selling vehicles though. I think that coming out with more SUVs would be a good move for Acura. Their sedans are pretty lackluster and the whole industry is shifting towards CUVs anyway.

More SUV's does seem like a good idea for them, it seem like something they do better with. I can really see a compact SUV doing well for them.

I think the SUV marketplace is become more like the sedan marketplace now. Before reliability was the top priority and Acura and Honda had it made. But like the sedans; it becoming more based on looks and status! Acura just doe not have the looks in their vehicles anymore and never had the status. It not just my opinion either. Just look at the German brands like BMW and Mercedes. They are not reliable but they sell much more then Acura's SUVs. And worldwide it not even close. Acura SUV account for maybe 6% of worldwide sales.

But I also don't see acura as equal to the germans. I see ACura as second tier luxury with Buick and Lincoln, even infiniti to a degree. Acuras are for the smart money. You get a relatively luxurious vehicle, mainstream maintenance and parts cost, Honda reliability and you dont have to worry about the image game. They're almost like Subarus... You buy one because you're in the know, not because you want people to know ;)

I completely agree with this.

To me, acura is and will always be in the entry-level range of luxury and maybe even slightly above it but they will always be in that part of the segment. They actually might be better off like that, there's always demand their.

you both make great points, and I think that's where much of Acuras flak comes from. They're constantly crucified for not being German, but why does no one crucify the Germans for not being Japanese. The Teutonic three are lucky to make it past the first oil change without something breaking.

Plus some people don't want to be roped in with ghastly BMW people ;)

the german trio DOES receive flak for being unreliable

by the japanese car owners though!

the people who actually drive these german cars accept the fact that they arent as reliable and set their standards as so. that way they arent surprised

and you dont really see them complain actually!

you pick your side and stand your ground.

if you want reliability - go with the japs

if you want performance and prestige - go with the germans

would be nice if the japs mixed it up and threw in some respectable performance in their cars too to mess with the germans a bit

because we all know the germans wont be throwing in some reliability to mess with the japs :p

they dont know any better

The SUV marketplace is becoming Acura's only marketplace. None of Acura's sedans cracked 1000 sales last month. That's terrible.

I'm hoping the new Acura TLX is a hit. Otherwise, Acura should pivot to its apparent strength and become a full SUV brand, like an Asian Land Rover. I think Acura could do very well with a B-segment crossover underneath the RDX, for starters.

Rebadge the Honda HR-V / Honda Vezel, call it the Acura BDX, and count the cash rolling in.

You can't tell me this wouldn't be a hit...
