Hey everyone I am currently running two amps in my hrv (2021 LX) and for some reason, I cannot find the proper ground. I chose my first place to be a bolt behind the magic seats but my audio amplifiers are going into protecting mode. Has anyone found a better spot in the car for a ground?

how do you know protect mode is brought on by 'bad ground' ?
Check the voltage - Honda has a current sensing system that cuts the alternator out when the battery is fully charged- the voltage drops to battery voltage 12.4 or so- that may kick in a safety at the amp, maybe ?

Hey John thanks for the reply, I have a Rockford fosgate r2-500x4 and when the protection light on it means there’s a short or a bad ground. I didn’t check for volt drops but I will. I still want to figure out the best place for a ground Incase something happens because amps tend to be picky about grounds

well if you can run back under the dash you can see all the other ground attach to a bolt that is on a crossmember/round tube that runs left to right- they are black wires - easy to see actually from under the drivers side. clean off any paint and attache to that same steel tube/crossmember.

I checked the ground and it was fine. I think it is what you were talking about, when I put the volume up it goes into protection mode. How did you get away from the sensing system?

Try it with the headlights on - any heavy current draw like that, and the alternator has to almost constantly charge the battery. That would be a surefire way to know if the Honda system is the culprit. Also the fan for the HVAC on high will also draw lots of current.

I am having simlar issues with a kenwood head unit - when the weather warms up a bit I intend to run a heavier GA wire direct to the battery- possible voltage drops through the OEM wire/system are hurting me.
