Hi 9w6vx I like my electronic gadgets and alarms and found my bike batteries were getting poor to charge plus the HRV issue. I had not normally used my battery conditioners on the bikes but due to Covid shutdown and lack of use of cars and bikes for several months in the UK issues were showing up and I had thought about a simple voltmeter in the car whilst driving as I had checked the HRV voltage while parked and saw the strange low voltages and started to look at the circuit and the negative voltage control system.
On Youtube I saw the BM2 battery monitor and I thought just the job, no more getting the hood up (Bonnet in the UK) to check the battery condition, same as my wife's Jazz not driven for months. I can check the voltage and status of the battery. I now leave the bikes on the conditioners and can see how they switch and manage the charge keeping them ready for a ride. Vstrom 1000 and Honda Crosstourer DCT.
The App is free it has Bluetooth to each module; left connected; you select the one to check it displays the status % and if on charge, will gather the last connection data of the battery and display/download the battery volts, starts and stop, plus charging and I have seen over 1 months worth of information.
Screen shot of the battery status yesterday as I walked by the car.
The HVR screenshot show the battery condition then car start, starts to recharge battery then ECU shuts the voltage down below what the battery had as a standing charge taking power from the battery !!!! Turn on headlights (its daylight) voltage goes back up to charge battery, arrive and engine stopped, the end blip shows when I turn off headlights and battery has little drain.

Trip Friday 17th
Battery charging ok while it was dark, then daylight it starts discharging until headlights put on. Arrival 08:40 and battery settles down to normal. The return trip I thought I would see what state the battery would be as it was 100% at the start of my 2-3 hr trip back. I was shocked to find the battery condition had dropped from 100% to 68% and the voltage peaks/spikes can be seen.

Note I have no interest in this company and find it only as a good tool.... to see if the battery is failing.

I'll tell you what, Jimsullivan835. I'll move past the fact that you're being a wise-ass and I'll upload pictures of my installation. In fact, I could upload photos of most of the pcb boards that are associated with 95% of the electronics systems that Honda has in my 2017 HR-V. Your not speaking to clueless person. I've personally combed over every square inch behind 95% of all the paneling in that vehicle except for the the paneling and modules that are associated with the very rear-end of the 2017 HR-V. I painstakenly invested my time into thoroughly understanding my HR-V for various personal reasons, since the time I first drove my vehicle brand-new off the Honda dealership lot. I know the limitations of interoperability between a PC and the required cabling/software needed to access most of the calibration functions of the vehicle. I know the limitations of consumer calibration liberties associated with this vehicle. I know what module governs traction control. I started my meticulous examination and documentation of my 2017 HR-V at the age of 25. I know where to access the official repair manuals and software to access those manuals. I also came up with my own way to bypass my navigation's motion video lockout provisioning so that I could send my google maps app with satellite-mode from my iphone and into my 2017 Honda HR-V's HDMI port, and I did it without custom wiring and all that tacky methodology commonly used today. I've maintained my vehicle to 175,000 miles so far problem-free aside from the no-start issues. I've maintained and conditioned every wire covering, HVAC hose, ground connection, and so forth since day one. I don't have so much as a leak in any component in my vehicle. My background is a Cyber Security major with a specialization in hacking and hardware forensics. Part of my motivations for doing all this is that I do not like being taken advantage of by corporations. I believe in taking care of what I have and being self sufficient and not dependent on them. I'll upload the photos when I have more time. Perhaps this weekend. Good day-

Your "wall of text" posts are extremely difficult to read and follow.
I recommend the use of paragraphs.

I'm still curious, perhaps others also, of which model larger battery you installed in your HRV.
I look forward to your pictures of the battery you installed and how you fit it in the restricted HRV battery shelf.

Hello - Recently I had to replace my 2016 HRV battery AGAIN. I'm being told by the folks at Honda that it is because I don't drive my car enough! I had my last car for 20 years and NEVER had to replace the battery as often as I have on this 2016 HRV.

Has anyone else had problems with their battery's? I'm being told by friends and family it sounds as if these people are giving me a run around. The dealer did suggest I get a Trickle Charger but I don't think I should have to buy anything extra.

Anyone have suggestions OR have the same problem with their HRV?
I have been reading many posts in several different threads regarding problems with the HR-V 51R battery.

My own experience has been completely trouble free.

I have that battery in my 2016 HR-V LX and in my 2009 Honda S2000.
Neither car has had any battery issues and both original batteries were replaced after 5 years of use.

The S2000 is not used regularly and has many times been idle for weeks at a time particularly in the winter without any starting problems. I put a charger on the battery if either car sits unused for more than a month.

If you are considering a battery upgrade, this may help.

Well.. that's not a battery upgrade at all.
It's an entry level Interstate battery with only 2 year warranty and only 500CCA's.
Identical to the original HRV battery.

The Group 56 battery in the bottom left of your screenshot with 590CCA is an upgrade and it drops right into the HRV with no modifications.
However its a rare, nearly obsolete battery.

My intent was only to show the comparison between size and CCAs. Interstate just had all the info readily available. Choose your own favorite battery brand.

Your information does not surprise me one bit. Its refreshing to see another person approach things the way that you have. Great contribution!

FYI Update on My Information Upload: Last weekend, I started to upload all the official wiring diagrams onto my profile. I ran out of time and haven't been able to upload my photos of all the electronic components yet, but I hope to find time this weekend to upload them as well. My custom battery option photos will also be included as well.

Yep, I'd say there has been a major miscommunication. Jimsullivan835, I'm not sure exactly how I managed to confuse you with CalgaryHRV, but I apologize for the misdirected message. I was certain that I had addressed CalgaryHRV, but I apparently misdirected the message to you instead. I have edited the name on the OP.

I'm not sure why you called me a wise-ass, but I've never posted in this thread (or any other).
I simply
liked' a comment by CalgaryHRV - about the lameness of using a trickle charger. (Because I happen to park in the street, with no power available).
FWIW my Like was not in any way directed at you.

It confused the heck out of me, haha.
but it's all good. Thanks for the reply.

I also own a 2016 Honda HRV. Original battery died within 2 years. I had AAA roadside assistance replace my battery with one of theirs. That one lasted almost 3 years. Called AAA to see what the problem was only to find out they had sold and installed the wrong battery for my car. Turns out they don’t carry the appropriate battery for 2016 HRV. Luckily my money was refunded. I still need a new battery though.
