Can someone tell us if the HRV starting out in 4th gear(automatic) is normal? We had the vehicle in for a test drive and the manager said it was norma. When we start out in gear 4 the heat shield rattles. This doesn’t sound right.
Any USA HR-V has a CVT automatic transmission. It has an infinite number of gears. It will usually start out in a higher ratio to aid fuel economy.
If your car is more than 4 years old, and you live in an area where road salt is used, the heat shield around the catalytic converter might be cracked.
If the exhaust manifold shield (right by the firewall) is what rattles, that could be due to a compressed mounting grommet (looks like a steel wool 'donut'). We fixed the one in our kid's '07 Fit with high-temp RTV. No noise even after 125,000 miles.
Unplug the battery for 10 minutes. Mine rattled from new, some people said the tsb tranny fix made it go away - it seems less now, but mine won’t shift under wot
