Oil change schedule and independent shops?

New 2021 with 5900 mi. Dealer said they'd see me at 7500 for a freebie. I think that's too many mi.; 6K sounds about right if 100% synthetic. Your thoughts?

If I have it done at an independent shop, does that affect warranty?
I don’t think it’s too many miles, these newer cars can take more time before oil changes, but being that you have a 2021, you should have the same, if not improved, automatic oil life gauge telling you how much percentage of oil life you have. I just press the little stick that’s on my odometer gauge three times & that particular window will show the current oil life. I just keep an eye on that, then when it gets to 10%, I make my appointment. It’s more convenient than trying to track time, even with synthetic oil.

Btw, independent shops are fine, just file your receipts, just in case you need them later for warranty purposes.
