Paint Around Fuel Door

1024 Views 13 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  John35g
I have a 2018 HRV in the grey metallic. When washing it the other day I noticed the paint around the inside edge around the fuel door looked like it might have not been applied evenly. The paint area on the inside edge behind the bracket that attaches to the fuel door when it opens appears to be much thinner. When you look closely it appears to be much lighter in colour than the rest of the area. It looks different in different lighting.
I had someone else look at it and they thought it may just be the reflection off the door arm as it is definitely not painted as thick and is just a base paint without any clear coat.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Would the fuel door have been installed after the body of the car was painted in the factory?

does it look like that area was shielded by the hinge when painted ?
If so -its possible the car was repaired and repainted -and they still had the hinge connected etc.
We have had the car since new. We have never repaired that area.

Maybe they did. (Dealership or factory)

Yeah-if it gets dinged up on their own lot- they will just fix it and sell it as new etc.

What?? Show me pics. Sounds normal to me. How long has it been before you noticed this?

So, the water beads distort what you’re trying to illustrate, however let me say this. My buddy who owns a bodyshop for custom/classic rides, calls me “Mr Picky”- you have earned the title too-hahaha. Aside from two 2016 pristine HR-V,s that we own- I have a collection of antique/classic cars. Here what I would do: buy some fine cream base compound, apply per directions 2-3 inches above/below and to each side of the area of concern(gently). Then finish/coat with quality wax or spray ceramic and buff it. Should look like new- let me know

i THINK he is referring to the part inside the door - along the edge here - hard to get a finger in there without removing the door and hinge.

Completely insignificant in my opinion- I stand by my recommendations. Waiting for his/her response
