Rear Brake Pad Replacement FYI

My HR-V is about three years old with 58600 miles. I thought it was about time to replace the brake pads (it wasn't, as it still had about 40% friction material left in it), BUT I made an interesting discovery about the HR-V rear brakes.

Here's a video that may be helpful in rewinding the rear brake pistons when new pads need to be put in.

I checked the Honda manual and it outlines the procedure put the HR-V in maintenance mode. Has anyone else done the rear brakes without doing this? Did you have any problem?
I'm looking at the procedure for the rear brake pad R&R, and nowhere does it indicate to enter "Maintenance mode" to do it. It does say if you are not hooking the car up to HDS, to remove the electronic parking brake actuator, and reinstall when you are done. It never mentions putting the car in "Maintenance Mode".

The only "Maintenance Mode" I find in the manual is for VSA maintenance, if you are running the drivetrain on the lift.
