I don’t seem to see comments here on road noise. I need to wear AirPods when driving and talking on the phone. I work out of my car and this is not what I expected when I purchased this car. Are there other solutions?
Did you not test drive it first? I would think you'd have noticed "objectionable" road noise. Have you linked your phone to the car with Honda Hands Free Link or whatever they call it? Our '21 is fine using the phone hands free, noise isn't bad at all, dunno what you were expecting....again, did you not take an adequate test drive? Just wonderin'...
Yup, test drove. My car is a 2017. Road noise didn’t bother me until my callers complained that they heard a lot of background noise and had trouble hearing me. I took the car into different dealers and they couldn’t replicate the problem.
I had 2 different Android phones and then changed to an iPhone, hoping the problem was with the phone…
This is the noisiest car that I’ve ever owned. My passengers and myself both complain about the road noise and I too have difficulty hearing phone calls over CarPlay but I just turn it up very loud. It also really depends on the road pavement, some roads are extremely louder than others.

Tire brands and patterns can also play a part in road as well.
I have Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 215-55-R17 94V tires that have been on the car from new. I too notice that on some road surfaces it is very noisy inside, other times it is very quiet. Like the Dr., I just use the steering wheel vlume button to increase the volume.
My biggest issue with Carplay is when you make a call, I cannot hear the ringtone. If I turn the volume up so I can hear the ringtone, when the call connects it blows me out of the car. It is a minor bug bear that I can live with.
Don't you just hate it when you type up a page and a half response to someones thread, only to realise you have misread the issue??!!
@lyn If possible, take someone with you and see if they agree with you that your vehicle is noisy.
You could try and do the journey in a similar vehicle to the HR-V; Toyota C-HR, Buick Encore and so on, and see how they compare. There are apps you can download that record the decibel levels on your journey for you to compare and contrast. You could try your local dealership for a test drive of a similar HR-V to your own and see how they compare.
Basic things for you to do are check your tyre pressures and make sure they are within what is posted on the label on the OS B Pillar. What brand and range of tyres are fitted to your vehicle, and what are their condition?
It may be worth going round your vehicle to see if any trim or interior fittings is loose.
You could do search online to see if others are experiencing issues similar to yourself on the same route as yourself.
Overall the HRV isn't the quietest vehicle around. Tires do make a big difference and I have noticed in switching from the OEM Michelin's to Continental tires. If you want to spend some time, and not too much money, you can add sound deadening material to the areas underneath the floor covering. It is a fairly easy do it yourself job if you are handy, and can reduce the noise by a fair amount.
Did the other callers highlight an issue when making calls with either of your previous phones, or just since you've been using your Apple device?
Microphones and speaker quality and performance on mobiles have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years. I can unintentionally activate Google search on my phone whilst it is upstairs and I am downstairs, or vice versa.
On the latest Android phones there is the option to reduce the sensitivity of the microphone, there may be the option to do that with your phone.
Often listeners have trouble hearing me when over 70 mph. I would have expected this in a small, light car with only a 1.8l engine and the noise level was an I expected it to be on my test drive.
I have a ‘16 EX and as long as I have all the windows/moon roof shut and fan isn’t on high, I’ve had absolutely no problem with using the hands-free phone as well as Siri. I’m thinking the tires may be the culprit.
My 2019 Ex is very quiet on most road surfaces. Sound proofing was upgraded from 2019 onwards. Have you fitted snow tyres? I'm on the original Michelin Primacy.
The other thing to look at is it may have nothing to do with your set up at all, and the fault lies with the people receiving the calls.
It can occasionally be hit or miss when making calls to my parents, but I just hang up and call back and that normally resolves the issue. They are really the only ones I have to do this with.
I'm coming from a tiny 07 Honda Fit, so compared to that, this is basically a Bentley, or any other tank of a car (i dont know cars, can you tell?). Also wearing earbuds is super dangerous while driving. Check your phones call sensitivity options to see if that helps.
I tested this by calling my wife via the vehicle's Bluetooth while going 70mph on the highway. She could hear me perfectly fine in the vehicle albeit with some noise. Certainly a significant difference compared to our previous vehicle ('15 Civic) Overall I'd say the HR-V is relatively quiet enough for phone calls.
The drive on my new H-RV is beautiful and I feel like it runs very quietly which was a big plus when considering purchasing it. Imagine my surprise when I gave my husband a call a few days after our purchase to be told that the road noise is unbearable. He can hear everything on his end. Going over small bumps, trucks driving by, and so on. I call my parents. Same thing. Think maybe it is just my phone (brand new Samsung Galaxy S 22 plus) so we try my husband's (Galaxy S21 Ultra) nope, same issues.
How do I get rid of this horrible road noise? Thank you!
You buy a more expensive car, that’s how. It happens to me too with an aftermarket head unit and my iPhone. The problem is the cheap and/or lack of sound proof in this car.
Wife & I both have a Samsung Galaxy S10, I think we will always hear trucks going by because they are louder than cars and the microphone is sensitive. I can't comment on the road bumps though as I can honestly say we have never experienced that type of noise.
I was always telling my wife, that she doesn't have to yell or raise her voice on the cell phone or in the car, the microphone does a very good job on it's own. Doesn't make any difference though, so I gave up.
All I can suggest is you check the sound settings on your phone (some have noise cancelling/reducing capabilities built in), and for your Head Unit. Check your tyre pressures are correct, and ensure all your windows are fully up. You may want to have a check of your door and window rubbers to ensure they are installed correctly, not folded over, coming adrift or are beginning to perish. I use a rubber treatment applied with a microfibre cloth every few months, this also helps minimise the doors sticking during the colder weather.
One option available to you is to raise the issue with your dealer and ask to compare the call quality on a similar HR-V during a roadtest on the route where the noise seems to occur and see if you suffer the same issues.
Do you really think it’s that bad? I’ve had my 2016 HRV since 2016 and I don’t think it’s even noticeable, but I came from a Dodge Neon so it was definitely an upgrade any way you look at it.

Honda upgraded the soundproofing for 2019. Mine is very quiet unless you put your foot to the floor. Are you using winter tyres? They create more noise than summer tyres, or maybe the replacements from the original tyres are poor quality?
