If you're close to a dealer, I'd let them mess with it (that's what warranty is for)

I would imagine there is a spring in there that's likely broken (although I'm not with mine this week so I can't look). I doubt there is anything you could fix on your own easily without rigging up some non-oem part.

If Cotton has his diagrams handy though, maybe we can take a look inside

I wouldn't be surprised if others don't notice it until they read about it and realize that the lid is not normal, or think they're the only one and it's not worth reporting.

Thanks for sharing it though, at least we know it's an issue to look out for.

Mine broke a year ago (and well out of warranty). Doesn't really bother me.
