I don't have anything stored in that silly console. My salesman seemed to want to show it off like it was a hot feature, but it's just not a good storage setup in my opinion. I can't actually reach it comfortably (behind my elbow) to open it to grab or dump something when I'm driving, it wouldn't hold much anyway, and even when I pull the top of the console forward it is not sufficiently positioned to provide an armrest (possibly because I'm only 5'4" and sit fairly much forward, out of comfort range for the console top to be an armrest). I could stow sunglasses and a roll of quarters in there for parking meters, I guess, but it doesn't lock, so it's not optimal for keeping anything valuable in there.

Based on this thread I did check and the console cover on my very new HRV closes softly, no slamming. It'll probably continue to be ok because I have no reason to open it. Hope those with ailing console covers get them fixed satisfactorily.
