Contacted Honda dealership. Are in service 10/15 KM 58300. They said they couldn't help me because the warranty had timed out. I've called Honda Canada...we'll see how that goes!
So bought a used 2016 Honda HRV M6 2WD in the fall. Nice car. Drives well, quiet, loads of room and good on gas. We like it.
Noticed that there was water in the tail light last week. The local Honda dealer, Olympic Honda looked at the vehicle and told me, 3 years/60000 km warranty. 58370 km but in service October 2015....I don’t qualify...!!!! I could appeal to Honda Canada for a mediated settlement based on goodwill but don’t get hopeful.
Spoke to Honda.ca. They’ll look at sending it to mediator if I complete their form and get the determination done by the dealer. They promised me the form would be to me in 5 minutes...still waiting.
Cost of determination $115 with no guarantee of paying by Honda. New lens from Olympic $224.00 or from China $130.00? I would argue that the determination fee is a nuisance fee designed to stop people from pushing the issue
Not impressed. I have owned 4 Honda cars and one motorcycle but they won’t cover a part?
Angry with this response.

That Dealer is being penny wise, pound foolish as you will not do future business with that dealer in the future. I would hope most dealers would just do the repair as a courtesy.

Had you been the original owner, or purchased it from the dealer, I would bet you would have received more consideration.
Possibly. I did buy it from a dealer, but I shouldn't be surprised. The local dealer has never been particularly helpful anytime I go there. There is always a reason why they shouldn't help.
We had an airbag recall on our 2010 Fit. After doing the recall, they put significant pressure on us to $650 worth of "necessary" service. We took their list, but decline their kind offer.

Sounds to me like you need to find a different dealer to work with going forward. :) Their service department is the kind that get called 'stealership'. How far to the next closest Ontario dealership? Or authorized service independent garage?

The nearest dealership is in the next city over...say about 40 minutes one way. I got fed up like they wanted and figured $115 to look at it or I can buy one and install it for $120....

Order from RockAuto.com. It was here in two days and installed in about 15 minutes. It took longer to figure out how to come at the fourth nut than anything else.
Thus ends the sage of the water filled tail light!

Last week I was standing by the rear of my car and the sunlight was hitting the taillight in such an angle that something was obviously odd.
Because of the lines in the clear plastic it was very hard to see the water.

I visited the dealer and they are ordering a new gasket. We'll see if this works out.
My car is coming up on its second year (September) and 19,000 kilometres.
This has been the only issue to date. Very pleased not to have experienced the bad problems other people have encountered.
Hi did the dealer charge you anything? I have this same problem in both of my tail lights on the hatch and the dealer quoted me $365 each! I’m pretty furious about this since it’s clearly a factory defect.

Jumping in to share my experience. I have a 2016 HRV I bought brand new in December 2015. My first NEW car. I have loved this car! THOUGH there have been such things as water in tail light in my hatch door that have been an issue. The first one they replaced, while it was under warranty. The second one started taking in water after the warranty and they have refused to replace it. I now have 108,000 miles.....and will share other frustrations on other threads.

Had the same experience with first one being replaced by the dealer and the second one happened at 50k, didnt bother going back to the dealer, took the lamp off the hatch and drilled a 1/8" hole at the very bottom of the cavity and the water came pouring out. Have not had a problems since, yes there is a problem with the design or the manufacturing of the lamp and it is often the driver side lamp that has this problem.

You can do this your self, all that is needed is a small socket or open end wrench to remove the lamp and a drill, if you dont want to tackle this, you might be able to find a local shop to do this. good luck

My son just drilled a hole in my drivers side, hatch tail light to release the water. I have also stopped going to car washes because of the issue. Doesn’t make sense that a car can’t go through a car wash.

I drilled both of my tail light lenses last year and no more water problem. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best. You should be able to use the car wash without any concerns.

I am experiencing exact same issue with my ‘16 HRV. Bought it brand new in 2016 and in September 2019 noticed water in passenger taillight when I heard a “slosh” as I opened the tailgate. Went to the dealership and was still under warranty so they replaced the entire taillight. It’s now April 2020 and the water is back. I’m no longer under warranty and they’re quoting me $400 to fix it although they are offering to split the cost since they just repaired it. Thinking I will resort to the hole drilling others have mentioned.
