3 quite minor issues on your 2016 HRV with a CVT in 6 years of ownership..
1 of the issues, Honda Canada fixed it for free...

Get rid of this lemon!.. :)

If you are being serious, how many km/miles on your HRV?

Hi Eddie,
You were somewhat right. Took my HRV to Kingsway Honda this morning. The ran the diagnostics and said
the issue is failed it’s sunroof seal , the sunroof glass needs replacing. Honda quoted around $1500.
Not impressed and very disappointed, upset to say the least...
Trying to get help from Honda Canada, wish me luck...
Good luck, But I would still check out the drainage holes. There's 4 of them. Do this first, then pour water on the car, or go to the car wash and see if there's any leaks. I had a problem with my 2016 hrv ex. I took it to the dealer and they unclog it. The amount of water that I was getting, drove me crazy.

This is Honda's assessment from this morning. Already paid $358.40 for diagnostics.

Now that Honda dealer are required to build super upscale facilities in prime locations, with many Honda shirted staff running about, cookies and coffee in the waiting room, their overhead is enormous.

Ain't no cheap fix for nothin'..............

I've had these exact same issues on a 2021 HRV AWD Sport. A year into owning it, the passenger side window seal would leak into the doorjamb, over the weather strip seal and leak out the bottom plastic trim, just over the weather strip. Enough water looks and leaks into the footwell.

Dealership couldn't replicate. Turned out they were just blasting a pressure washer, which had all the water bounce off the car instead of actually spraying water to investigate the issue.
I am 99% confident my car has this same issue (
) but Honda won't address it (under warranty).

Two months ago, while driving in rain the car had falsely detect the rear tailgate as open. The rear tailgate light on dashboard would indicate as open, then randomly turn off. Doors would unlock, and relock.

Due to this malfunction, the alarm would unexpectedly go off. I also had to disconnect the battery overnight.

Visiting a different dealership soon for these.

I've had these exact same issues on a 2021 HRV AWD Sport. Purchased from Honda Queensway. A year into owning it, the passenger side window would leak into the doorjamb, over the weather strip seal and water would pool in my passenger foot well. Honda Queensway has declined the issue as they can't replicate it. Turns out they were just blasting a power washer, which basically had all the water bounce off the car instead of actually spraying water to investigate the issue. Second, 2 month ago I was driving during a rainy evening and had the car detect the rear tailgate as open. Later, since the tailgate latch was glitching, the cars alarm would randomly go off. I also had to disconnect the battery overnight.

I am going to visit another dealership (Honda Downtown) to see if they can resolve these factory defects.
Do you have a moonroof? If so, the drainage holes could be clogged. You could try unclogging it with a can of air, that you would use on your pc keyboard. As for the tailgate next time it happens, jiggle it to see if there is some play. If there is, do a quick sudden hard force down on it ,it should lock. I've had same issue with mine. Sometimes if you close it lightly, it will not close right. Hope you have no more problems.

Thanks, good reminder for maintenance on the sunroof. As for the trunk, I've updated my original post to better describe the issue (tailgate closed, maybe the latch or sensor is glitching in the rain? Potential water leak?).

Here is one example of passenger door leak

Slow leak into footwell, however bad when snow is melting. In this picture the car was parked overnight in light continuous rain. By morning, water had already leaked into footwell.

Attempting to trace the leak myself, I eventually narrowed it down to window seal.

Most of water passed through the window seal and drain out the bottom of doorjam.

The problem was that water was slowly leaking from under the door panel.
