Anyone has luck getting voice commands to work with climate control or their iPod?

As I read the manual, the full range of voice commands only work on the EX-L; however, the hands free phone commands are "supposed" to work with the EX. We bought an EX about one month ago and the Voice Tag system doesn't work at all. No, I don't have an iPhone or an Android; but, the car/phone connection is sophisticated enough that the phone links, automatically downloads the phone directory to the car, and allows the full range of setup for establishing speed-dial numbers and applying voice tags. Once that is accomplished, the firmware in the car should recognize the voice tag (such as "CALL WIFE HOME"), relate that voice tag to the speed-dial number, and make the call. The firmware fails every time.

Both the dealer and the American Honda rep have told me I need a new phone. I'm sorry; but, that's el toro poo poo. All the linking and downloading is fine! All the setup for Speed-Dial is working. All the establishment of Voice Tags is working. The voice tag recognition is in the car's firmware, NOT in the phone. The American Honda rep originally agreed to take the issue to the HFS team and then reneged on the agreement. Now I'm left without support from the dealer or, apparently, American Honda, to address a clear safety concern in that I cannot make hands-free calls.

I'll have further comments to make, in a different thread, about windshield distortion and inside rear-view mirror distortion which American Honda has also refused to address.

First Honda ever & last Honda ever!!!

You actually may need a new phone. With some many phones out there, the firmware can only do so much. If you are using an old flip phone, the phone itself may not be able to communication with the other bluetooth receiver. I experienced this frustration on my father's 2015 Honda Accord EX-L. It paired perfectly. Downloaded phone numbers, and everything. When it came to voice commands, it couldn't do it, nor could he take hands free calls, but could make them, which made things pointless for him. I understand you are sold under the pre-tense of everything should work out the box, but with so much software out there, it is hard to make sure everything actually works, which is way the focus is on the andriod/ios which is where the market is heading will be in the future.

I'm not surprised about the trouble with voice commands. Honda's infotainment systems SUCK with a capital SUCK. MY '13 Civic's system was bad. My HR-V LX system works much better but isn't glitch free at all.

I am surprised by the lack of support about the windshield distortion, if it is as bad as you make it sound. What does your service department say about it?

I gave up on voice tags with my EX, especially after they removed themselves a few times. It's less distracting for me to pick up my phone and hit the speed dials that I have on my home screen.

Voice commands

Does anyone have a list of active voice commands for a 2018 EX model.? I read in my users guide that voice commands only work on the HR-V’s with the navigation package, but my dealer claims a few commands also work on an EX model (mostly for the phone). It is difficult to get this info from Honda

EX voice commands

Thank you for the list of voice commands for the navigation package, but I already have that. I just need a list of voice commands that will work on my EX HR-V. I am hoping that someone has discovered this list already..I sure have not

If you do not want to read the manual, you can set up phone voice commands by sitting in your car- press the start button once without stepping on brake. Go to your Home Screen "Settings"- go to Phone icon . then hit the phone talk lever on lower left of steering wheel- the top most of the three lever things and follow the instructions.
I have not had too much success using voice commands and usually resort to hitting one of my last calls on the touch screen or hitting the number for someone in my contacts. I do not make calls frequently while in the car.

Thank you…it was very easy once I turned on my blue tooth on my flip phone. There are 5 or 6 commands, I hare not explored them all yet, but tried a few. I think the microphone is near the map lights (on the ceiling)..it really does eliminate having to touch anything
