Android Head Unit Upgrade

A few questions Dr. T. If you dont mind.
I read your posts but want to be absolutely sure before I spend 750$ on the head unit. I have a 2017 EX.

1. Did you lose any functions ( lane watch, steering wheel controls? After install?

2. Any bezel required ?

3. Any wiring changes or harnesses ?

4. Software updates required?

5. Rating out of 10 now that your had it for a while.

Thanks !

Unless those are Canadian dollar, last I checked it was around US$500 and since your car is a 2017 you could try the Maxca if you want to save money but it's not as fully featured (but does have CP/AA).

None, everything works on my 2020. When I first got it the reverse camera did not work but I contacted them and they sent me a different wiring harness and it resolved the issue.

The bezel comes with the head unit, it's completely plug and play.

None, all connectors plugged into the factory harness including the USB but the microphone is changed to the aftermarket one.

No updates to the car's system was required. Mine came with Android 10 and 11 is out now, I'm sure you could update if you wanted to do so, update the same as any other Google device over Wi-Fi.

The Dasaita itself (hardware) a 10, the Android 10 (operating system) a 10 because it loads fast, the Google Play (apps) a ? because I don't use them and the CarPlay a 9 which is why I really use the head unit.

I may make these posts about Dasaita with enthusiasm but it's really the Apple CarPlay that I'm using the head unit for and there are other head units that offer it. Dasaita just seems to be the best hardware with the least compatibility problems but I still think it's a bit over priced.

Yup, it's in CDN. I might try the Dasaita website direct instead of Ali. Seems cheaper at 498 US.

I want something better than the stock HU for sound, AA would be awesome and if I can get those with the lane watch and back up camera working, perfect!

I got the TV tuner yesterday. A quick inspection of the box is everything shown here and also a remote control. I’m not sure if I’ll need RCA cables or not, I’ll have to ask them, it doesn’t have instructions. It may be a while before I have time to install it.
I might pull the trigger on the head unit soon. Let us know how that T.V tuner works out.

I assumed this website dasaita.com is legit, I will try using AliExpress to get in touch with them!
I used the Dasaita website chat (aliexpress) to get my model from them. Send them the following in the chat and they can help.

Model (LX, EX, EX-L)

Year

They got back to me in 24-48 hours with the time difference.

Edit: I was wrong, the graph I saw did not compare the Max11, it was comparing the W11. Looks like Max11 is just a Max10 updated to Android 11, but all three are essentially the same hardware. Nice!

I just got an email from Dasaita saying the head unit I ordered is in a quarantined zone so they offered to send me the Max11 model instead of the Vivid model because it is in another warehouse. From what I see on their website, these are essentially the same device with different software. I did see a graph that showed the Max11 with half the RAM, and a PX5 instead of a PX6, but they said it has a PX6 so I assume it has been updated. If not I'll be disappointed.
I plan on probably installing the Vivid software unless I enjoy the Max, but the Max seems to look a little dated.
I actually like the MAX layout better when I was looking at the chart. I also loved WINAMP too so that's probably why I like the older look.

Did they mention having to pay duty on the order? I want to order to Canada but I'm afraid of $200+ in duty/tax costs.

Officially, if the automotive item is made outside of NAFTA/US/Mexico, ie. made in China, you will have to pay Canadian duties on it.

In reality, in many cases they won't charge you duty for automotive items even if made in China.

You will have to pay Canadian GST/HST. Brokerage charges are random also. Fedex and UPS are the worst.
Shipping via post to Canada Post is slowest and cheapest but that's rarely possible from overseas.

If you can purchase the same item via Ebay or Amazon USA or Amazon Canada there will be no surprises as all the costs will be stated up front.
Thanks! I'll have to do some digging to figure out if U.S Ebay will be a decent work around.

Dasaita knows how to make me happy LOL. I sent them a message on Alibaba and got this reply:

The amount of the tariff depends on the buyer's local policy, and the price we declare to the customs is only $50.

We will try our best to reduce the burden for you

Well I got my Dasaita unit installed. All works except for the backup camera and lane watch camera. Both are non-existent. I have tried every combo of RCA inputs I can think of and the only results I can get are the AVIN screen to show the image from the camera, not if I put it in reverse or if I use the signal/signal button.

I have left a message with the seller but they are not responding. If anyone has a solution for the 2017 EX with these issues please reach out to me.🤙

So now I can access the cameras but only by using the FCAM app and the AVIN app on the head unit. Still not luck with reverse or with the signal to activate them. Dasaita has ghosted me with my inquiry.

Anyone who helps me solve this will get 2nd spot on my Christmas card list.

Alright I have a question for you guys. My android auto is way quieter than my radio app. Anyone know which setting it is to change that? Been changing these settings around and can't find a difference.

P.S. I got my steering wheel call buttons working by plugging the D wire into D1 instead of D2 but now my left/right steering wheel buttons don't work :p is that a setting?
Here is a link to the most detailed settings video I could find for the unit. The screen you are on starts at 10:05

It might help with your steering wheel question as well. I think the swap keys might do it.

Did you buy it directly from them or from a third party seller? It could be the settings or (most likely) the wrong wire harness and/or CAN-BUS.

Try this from my notes:

route the signal for the Lane Assist camera in a US HRV EX, I had to do the following:
Settings > Car > Factory Settings > 126 (password) > Other > Customer Version > Version 2
Your timing is right on. I've been in contact with the seller and they did indeed send me the wrong CANBUS. I just received the correct one last night and everything works perfect now.

It was a lot of wasted time but I am happy that its now working. I am now an expert on installing this head unit and can help anyone with how to re-pin a harness as well lol.
