All I know is in a heat wave of 90s F and humidity, sitting in the sun all day, the A/C chills the car down very quickly --- definitely not an issue for me

Not really if you test for a long enough time and watch it. We did, but I forget the exact results. In the mid-high 40s though. Could have stood to be cooler, and other cars were, but really it's plenty cool enough.
I n ECON mode, the AC performance is adjusted:

"The ECON button turns the ECON mode on and off. The ECON mode helps you improve your fuel economy by adjusting the performance of the engine, transmission, heating and cooling system*/climate control system*, and cruise control."

So make sure that the ECON is turned off if you need more cooling.
My HRV AC works too good. I see myself continuously lowering the power. WAY too cold.

So, you confirmed my comments....it does depend on ambient temp and compressor cycling. ;)

Bottom line is who cares?.........the AC on the HRV cools down the interior air temp very well and quickly IMHO. I don't need to know the coldest it gets out of the vents.

Not everyone thinks that's cold enough. It's a preference thing.. Not sure what it's rated at, but other cars definitely get colder.

I did not know this. I will do that and retest.. not sure exactly when - might be a couple of weeks for test with thermometer, but will definitely try it out to see if we can feel the difference! Thank you!

Checking the air temp at the vent is actually the first thing a tech will do when looking at the A/C system. I am not sure what the HR-V specs are but on most cars the temp at the vent should be in the low 40's. If the air is not getting to that temp then there is usually a low coolant situation.
I have not checked mine but it definitely cools the car enough. 100 degree temps here in St. Louis, car sitting in sun all day and it cools off within minutes.

I do confirm (if I didn't already) - obviously all these factors would make a difference. I had not thought about the eco button - but now we have to get the tool from where it belongs and test it in the car again - so not sure when that will happen since I'd have to think of it at the right time etc.. but - I do confirm what you said.

At the 1000 mile mark, I feel I have had enough time to identify the things that bother me — it's a pretty short and trivial list.

Cupholders. This is an area where the 2nd generation Fit excels. The cupholders at each end of the dash are easy to reach, and in cold weather the heating system helps keep warm beverages warm, while in hot weather the AC keeps them cool. Despite the adjustable height feature, the cupholders in the console are awkward to reach, and so big that a normal sized cup or bottle falls over. I filled the gaps with foam can sleeves. I should eat and drink less while driving anyway, so maybe this is meant to be "good for me."

Cubbies. The front door panels could have been made with larger pockets. Other than the glove compartment and the large pocket on the back of the front passenger seat, there are no good places for maps. On the other hand a large foam box over the spare has lots of compartments, good for storing tools and emergency supplies.

Chrome Strip Around Shifter. At certain sun angles, this can pick up a nasty reflection; I'm considering taping over, or masking around, then painting the chrome black, but the paint would undoubtedly peel, so black vinyl tape (not electrical tape) may be the least-bad solution.

So, I've never taken bottled water or anything with me on a test drive...but they seem perfectly normal and easy to reach. I am curious as to why you think different. Maybe I should water with me on the next test drive!

Leavenfish : Take a drive in a 2009 Honda Fit, and you will see what I mean.

In the HR-V, the front cupholder is fairly easy to reach, but the rear one is completely unusable if the arm rest is in the forward position (and the latch to raise the arm rest to access the storage cubby under it is almost unusable). Regardless of position, both cupholders are so big that a 0.5 L bottle will flop around — water will actually splash out of an uncapped bottle.

I'm 5'4", have the seat fairly far forward and set high. For me, the back cup holder is not usable.
The front cup holder is ok, but I have to put napkins around my coffee to secure it well.

Oh, now I understand what you are saying. I thought you were talking about the seat height somehow making it problematic. I noticed that as well...99% of the time it's just going to be me so it would not be an issue.

I am about 5'9"...maybe a tad smaller and while I did pull the armrest forward a little ( I did not really need to...but liked having my arm on it more) most of the time I left it in the standard position.

I do need to experiment with my standard container to carry liquids in though. Maybe something fatter...or with a cozi will work better.

Cupholders

I agree with Seldon to a point.. No matter what type of cup/bottle, etc., the cup holders are "okay" - we use them all the time - but they surely could have been better. Even the CRV style would be better. Funny - a Large soda from BK - it's too tall on the upper level, but exactly too short on the lower level such that you chance pulling the cover off when trying to pick up the cup. I have yet to try space fillers for anything else - coffee cups are okay and water bottles have covers so it's okay if they move around. The armrest is definitely hard to use if you don't want to move it forward which does make one of the cup holders un-usable. HOWEVER - we manage just fine with many types of drinks and almost always two at a time... so this is not at all a game-changer, just an observation of something that could be better. I have not seen the Fit cup holders. I do NOT find that anything falls out of these cup holders, and that is a huge positive coming from our previous car.

I have not seen the Fit cup holders.
Behold the miracle of the cupholders:

The two under the dash in front of the shifter are of marginal utility, but the ones at the ends of the dash are wonderful. Whoever designed the layout for the three climate control knobs probably paid more attention to usability than aesthetics — a rare thing in automobile design.

After almost two months and 7000 miles, I still like the little beast. My only gripe, we couldn't get the stuff other counties did. Panoramic sunroof, Honda sense, led head lights. I would have paid upwards of 35k to have all that. So for now I'm happy with everything and hopefully the refresh will fix some of my issues or a second generation. If not we will see this week when the new Prius comes out.

PANORAMIC SUNROOF?! I would LOVE it too!!

Okay, enough shouting. I just got excited.

Until the Prius liftback can get rid of that crazy bar across the back, I won't consider it for a second car. That's what pointed me toward the HR-V. The Prius-V is good, but difficult for city street parking where spaces can be tight. Honestly, you can't beat the 'magic seat' on the HR-V. It came in handy during a recent camping trip. I didn't have to block my rear windshield with gear.
