my rear windshield shattered this morning meanwhile vehicle was parked. Nothing hit the window or anything I read online more people had this issue. Honda needs to issue a recall because this is a real problem. Imagine if this would have happened meanwhile my kids were on the back. Now I don’t have a car since I can’t drive like this and I have called our dealer and they transfer me to a million people left messages and still waiting for someone to contact me regarding this issue.

Jhonda! I am sorry to hear that! Do look around here - there are several threads going about it. There is one in the Recalls subfolder here that is most recent. Lots of details that may help.

What general area of the country are you in? Has it been especially cold or damp? Did you use the rear window defroster much this winter? Recently? They have gathering info to understand the causes, and are thinking that in some HR-Vs, the window heating elements may be touching the adhesive seal on the back window. Use of the defroster weakens/melts the seal, and the resulting pressure from temperature/humidity changes eventually blows the window.

Honda is aware of this problem and announced to all Honda service departments that they were planning a 'campaign' (which is a 'recall-lite') for maybe this month or in May. It will depend on how long it takes the glassmaker to stockpile enough parts. In the meantime, the only way to get Honda to pay for this is for you to first take it to them to inspect before doing anything else. They will determine fault, and if it's this flaw, they should be able to replace the window for you. You should also take a moment to file a complaint at NHTSA as the hundreds of complaints registered there are building a fact base for the Honda investigation and giving the NHTSA actionable info to influence Honda to act.

Good luck! I bought one of these possible lemons a couple weeks ago and nervously check every day to see if I still have a window. A call to the Honda Recalls line 1-888-234-2138 may help get you a connection to a local dealer who is obliged to help. And if you don't want to complain to the NHTSA online, you can call your complaint in here: 1-888-327-4236. Just have your VIN# ready. Cheering for you!

Also, don't let your local Honda dealer play dumb about this situation. They were informed by Honda Corporate, as can be seen in the two attached service memos which are posted on the NHTSA website. Print them and keep them handy. As new ones are released I am sure that the good folks here will find them and alert us all.
