My crv gets the worse gas mileage. Im getting around 15 in the city and about 22 on the last 3 hours vacation. It was better when newer but over time it dropped. Thats one of the main reasons i want something newer. Plus it gonna need brakes, tires, fuilds changed soon, so instead of putting 3k into it im gonna dump it.

I think it's the ride that sets the Crosstrek apart from the HRV, plus I found the HRV to have a much tighter, almost confining like feel on the interior.

It's a solid ride, no argument. It had the leather seats which were comfy and I forgot to mention I liked the manual climate and sound controls via dash and/or steering wheel.

You keep saying that the HR-V has a confining, small interior. I don't recall much of a difference between the two cars, and felt the HR-V had more space in the back seats.

I also felt the HR-V put you up a little higher, perhaps as a result of the front seats needing to fit the gas tank beneath them.

What do others here think about that?

IMHO, the HR-V, despite being smaller than my wife's Outback, is not that different inside! My 9yo even prefers being in the back of the HR-V. And as a front passenger and driver, the Outback is not that much larger.

From what I recall when checking out the Crosstrek, the space inside was VERY similar. I am surprised that you are focusing on this aspect so much, HRV4ME.

I do agree the Crosstrek might have a better ride on rough roads, and if you live in an area that has rougher roadways, that might be important. My test drive was in a town with decent roads, so I never really noticed the ride being much different. But, I am 46 and drive pretty mild, might not notice all these supposedly amazing differences in the handling.

I haven't felt claustrophobic to any degree in the HR-V, but this is admittedly subjective. I had one Honda salesman who was big (6'4" and well over 200 lbs, he said) who remarked that he did feel hemmed in compared to the CR-V. The Crosstrek does seem more spacious and after all it is 5 or 6" longer than the HR-V. Can't recall the width comparison, but Crosstrek likely wider as well.

At least Subaru is recalling their eyesight fiasco, and not forcing the owners to go through another class action lawsuit. Hopefully they are learning their lessons.

Yes and per the dealer I visited yesterday this is a firmware update applied at a dealer so problematic sure, but there have been far worse recall situations recently. (Hi Toyota!)

Definitely have to look at what it is worth, how much you are looking to put into it, and then how long you would be keeping it for.

Higher up in the Crosstrek without a doubt! And 3 inches higher than the Crosstrek in the Forester, according to my salesman on this one.

Yeah, not to the point of claustrophobic, but each time I drove the HRV (I am 6'1", I felt my knees hitting the sides, door and console. Overall, the Crosstrek was much more comfortable.

As for the drive, even in low speed situations, the Crosstrek handled better for me than the HRV.

I found the Crosstrek to have MUCH better overall visibility compared to the HRV and the Crosstrek actually sit higher. Some have indicated that the HRV sits higher, but there is a visual illusion due to the windows being much higher, unfortunately impacting visibility.

Have you had any more luck finding Foresters than Crosstreks?

Unfortunately, both continue to have the problem of demand exceeding supply. Most are sold before the even hit the lot so if you don't at least put down a deposit while one is in transit, you typically don't have much luck.

The rear views and blind spots are better than HR-V, but I don't feel substantially so. The Crosstrek could still very much use lane watch cameras and all the other gadgetry I've been going on about. Again, very curious to see what the 2016 Crosstrek will bring.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. Its one of the things I really liked about when driving the Crosstrek, plus the extra visibility given the lower window base compared to the HRV.

Is this the color Forester you are considering?

I like the fact that both models have 7 airbags, more than comparable competitors.

Are you seeing things and saying that you like them or do you really like them?

Ummm...beware of 'promo pieces' which give 'advantages' and nothing else really. "low vibrations and low profile'...doesn't mention that you have to add more oil for example and more often to name one. 44 yrs on...and it's not in wide use...but Subaru is so heavily invested in it...

Consider this thread: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f113/boxer-engine-durability-336089/

and edit to add this...can't imagine why anyone is enamoured with the 2015 with these (apparently needed improvements) on the way for 2016. And...now much do they 'really' improve?? : http://www.torquenews.com/1084/3-important-chassis-upgrades-are-coming-2016-subaru-xv-crosstrek

ps...Be afraid of Clowns....but NEVER trust a Mime...

HRV4Me...with the 2016 being shorter...but with better interior, are you waiting for it instead of a 2015?

2015 Honda Fit

You forgot this...and the HRV is sort of a 'big Fit'.

I drove down to Silver Spring yesterday to visit the Subaru dealer that works with Costco. The price they gave me for the 2016 Forester was invoice, and it was $2250 less than MSRP. They also discount accessories that are put on at the port. They have a Jasmine Green one in the trim I want, already on order. I am torn between the green and the blue.

There was a Honda dealer right next door to them and I was hoping to go there as well to drive the HR-V one more time, but I ran out of time. As of the end of last Saturday, the two closest Honda dealers to me, had ZERO HR-V. If a blue HR-V EX-L AWD had been available weeks ago in my area, I would have bought it. I never would have gone back to even drive the Crosstrek. I have ruled out the Crosstrek completely. Everything about it is perfect for me except the cargo area, which I know will not be sufficient.

Some friends suggested I look at the Outback as well, so I am going to do that. The dealers also recommended that. It is substantially longer than the Forester, which is why I was really not considering it. But it has some really nice features that the Forester does not have.

Sounds like you are slowly fine tuning things.

The Outback is very nice, but big. If you need the size, then it's the way to go.

I'm sure you will love either the Forester or Outback.

Kimk- as much as I think you WANT the HRV, with 2 goldens I think they'd be happier in a bigger car. With 1 dog, the HRV would be fine.

When you do get back to look at one- push on the cargo area-I got the cargo tray because it seemed so flimsy. Not sure how well it would support the dogs!

Good luck with the hunt- the 2016 crv oughta be out in the next couple months...if you can wait that long ;)
