Hi everyone,

2 weeks ago I purchased my HRV 2018 manual transmission Petrol 1.5 i-VTEC

it is used car with 70.000 km

I noticed when I start the engine (only when the engine is really cold) I hear some weird noise for a second, I recorded a video hopefully someone know what the problem is.

The car is Dutch car from Netherlands, bought it with BOVAG warranty.

I sent an email to the dealer ship yesterday and waiting for their response.

I also searched here but found different similar issues and everyone is saying different things.

Have the dealer, or a mechanic, check the belt tensioner for the serpentine belt. When the serpentine belt wears down enough, especially if it has never been replaced, or if the belt tensioner has worn out, this can make this "rattle" noise you're hearing when you start the engine. I don't know if the HR-V has this, but my 2016 CR-V has a wear indicator on the belt tensioner. I'd have to check my wife's 2019 HR-V if hers has it. My CR-V's belt tensioner wore out prematurely some years ago at only around 32k miles. My local Honda dealer replaced it under warranty at that time. But, it was making the same sound as your HR-V on cold starts. If this is all it is, it shouldn't cost much to replace.

Among all the important things I learned years ago while attending Lincoln Technical Institute to study to become an Automotive Tech, is to always begin looking at the simple stuff first, and then make your way down the list to the more complex stuff when troubleshooting issues. (However, I became a touring musician instead. Lol!) Hope this helps!
