Some owners with cars fitted with Garmin Sat Navs may not be aware that you are entitled to 5 years (from new) free map updates in Europe and other regions. (3 years in the USA).
It's an easy procedure if you carefully follow the instructions here: Honda Navigation Map Update | Garmin Customer Support

Do use a 16gb USB flash drive. NOT bigger, NOT smaller. The guide states that it takes up to 4 hours. For European maps it took a little over an hour on my pc to download the new maps to the flash drive ( I have a slow, 10mb/s internet connection ), then 1/2 an hour to update the maps in the car. You need to have the engine running when you do the update in the car, so do it when you are planning a longish drive where you don't need the sat nav. or be prepared to leave your engine ticking over on your drive.

Subsequent updates are faster if you reserve the flash drive for this purpose only.

Instead of letting the vehicle idle while programming/configuring the Navigation or flashing the ECU or whatever, connecting a battery charger, even a trickle charger, will provide adequate voltage and save gasoline.

Most dealer and aftermarket automotive programmers require a battery charger to be connected to the vehicle prior to programming.
Similar to flashing/programming a cell phone, tablet, laptop, etc.

Thanks for that, but, doesn't the ignition switch itself off if the engine has not been running for 1/2 hour? A couple of times when I have been waiting for my wife, listening to the radio, everything shut down after 1/2 hour. Also, the manual tells you not to connect a battery charger without disconnecting the battery from the car. On the advice of my supplying dealer, I ignore that one, but only when using a 4amp smart charger.
