2018 Honda HRV EX
30,000 miles

Recently our 2018 Honda HRV EX has been having an issue where the vehicle tries turning itself on when we park it and lock the vehicle. I’ve noticed that it only really happens the day that it rains. I have plenty of videos of it doing what it does, but can’t figure out why.
The whole dash board lights up as if the vehicle is trying to turn on but the key fob is no where near the car. This, then sets off my alarm and annoys the neighborhood. We’ve started unplugging the battery at night. Since we’re parked right next to my bedroom window, I’m not too concerned of someone breaking into it either.
I looked at the plugs within the moonroof and they don’t seem clogged and water doesn’t pool anywhere inside the vehicle on the carpet.
My stress levels have hit max since I just moved and took on a new apartment, and job. With a very small bank balance, I just can’t afford this brand new car to be doing this right now...
The photos posted are screenshots of the video. The key fob was not in the car but the car still acted as if I was pushing the push-button start without my foot on the brake to actually start the car.

Just to clarify, these lights only stay on for .5 seconds, and multiple times until the car either is turned on (and then it completely acts normal) or we disconnect the battery. When I turn on the vehicle, I can drive it like nothing is wrong. It’s only until I turn off the vehicle, that this happens on a rainy day.

That is strange and not a commonly reported issue on this forum.

1st up for any modern vehicle is to scan the ECU for any DTC's.
For the HRV, monitoring battery voltage with some kind of in-cabin voltmeter is critical.
Just read all the HRV battery issue threads.

You mention that the issue mainly happens when it rains. Is there any evidence of water on the carpet, under the dash on either side of the vehicle?

Your EX HRV should have a push button start.
Many issues have been reported for that pushbutton, although the usual symptom is the HRV not starting.

I wonder if the push button start switch is acting up. Honda did issue a TSB/recall for it plus many other folks took the switch apart and cleaned it.

Have you looked into the push button start switch? TSB/recall and cleaning procedure?
Thank you for your feedback. The issues are arising when the key is not in the vehicle though. Would that still be a push button issue? I would figure that the push button wouldn’t have an issue unless the key fob is in the vehicle.
I’m going to replace the battery to see if it’s a battery issue and kind of knock out what it could be.

Woke up to the battery dead today. But there were constant clicking noises coming from these two relays, even though the car was dead. When I jumped the car, the clicking stopped. When I took out those two relays, the clicking also stopped (prior to jumping the vehicle).

Could it be the Smart Entry Module? Below is from a previous thread.

My dad is on theory that it’s something to do with the smart entry as well. Thank you for that idea and link to the other thread. You’re very appreciated.

10/16/2021 UPDATE #2

Pulled out the Headlight Relay and whatever single relay is on the far left of the engine bay in the box, as pictured (if you know this answer to the name of it, please enlighten me). Car hasn’t gone off so far (has been parked for about 1.25 hours).

furthermore, with both relays out, the vehicle is able to crank over. I have no idea what that random relay is for.

Update 10/17/2021
I noticed that even if the driver’s side door is open, the key fob is able to lock the car. But any other door, aside from the tailgate, being open will NOT allow the car to lock via the key fob.
Would the issue with the driver’s side door, trigger something in the system that would basically short out my car and trigger the alarm?

My fiancé has said that the driver’s side door has been like that for months.

I’m wondering if it may have to do with the start/stop button issue that they’re having. Being that your foot isn’t on the break, it can’t start but the lights will still light up on the dash like it’s just putting the accessories on. Have you gotten the notice from Honda regarding getting the start/stop button replaced at any time? I have a 2016 EX and received both notifications for this and the CVT, although I haven’t made it to the dealership yet.
We went to the dealership and the only recall they’ve offered was for the throttle issue that 2018 models are having with acceleration.

Going by your posts, it sounds like you are guessing, rather than a logical, step by step trouble shooting approach to the issue.
I hope this is not the case.

What is your voltmeter telling you about the battery voltage?
Your voltmeter will tell you if you need to replace the battery or not.

What is your OBDII scanner telling you about the ECU stored diagnostic trouble codes?
DTC(s) can point you in the right direction or to the exact issue.

Are you referring to a HRV Field Service Manual?

Trouble shooting automotive electrical issues without the FSM is very difficult even if you are a skilled automotive technician.
The HRV FSM is available for download with a google search.

I hope you are able to resolve the issue.
I’ve just been fixing issues here and there that are common. Replaced battery, swapped a couple relays, etc., It went about four days not having the issue then started up again today... Honda wanted $140 to run diagnostics but I didn’t get paid until today.
