Earlier in this thread, I installed a much larger 124R (700CCA) in our previous 2016 HRV. It was a lot of work to do, finicky to do but that HRV never had a battery issue for 3 years after that.
I’m enthusiastic about everything in your post except (the previous) upgrade only lasting 3 years because that’s about how long my stock battery lasted. I’ve had no problems with my second 51R as it’s still going strong. However, I don’t live in the cold climate like you, so those extra CCA may be a plus in your case.

It is confusing since we previously had a 2016 HRV and now have a 2019 HRV.

We put the large 124R 700CCA battery in our 2016 HRV in fall 2020.
That battery had zero issues, was still going strong when the insurance wrote it off due to hail damage and hauled it away fall 2023.

I hope the 56R 590 CCA battery in our 2019 HRV does fine also.

I still think the initial battery was defective. I bought mine June 2015, and it died and was replaced under warranry 2 1/2 years later. Still going strong 8 years later.
My 2017 Civic 1.5 turbo still has the original battery, zero issues. 9 years now. I typically plug in below -20 C

You’re definitely doing something right, I’ve heard of a battery lasting 5 maybe 6 years but 8 and 9 is outstanding to say the least.

My 1999 Honda CRV was traded in in 2018 at 500,000 km with its second battery (OEM plus one) was still cranking.

My 2003 Accord Coupe has 360,000 km, and its second battery is still cranking

Wife's 2018 HRV OEM battery lasted about 5 years.

Battery longevity seems to be like our longevity, unpredictable with long tails on the bell curve.

My gut tells me that the early HRV's OEM batteries were manufactured with "cost savings", i.e., lousy quality. With over 100 years of manufacturing lead acid batteries, be assured they know exactly how to make a good one, and how to make an "economical" one.

Motorcycle batteries seem to be the worst quality, giving 2 years of service.
