I recently bought a 2018 HRV EX-L and I’m happy with it besides the fact that it doesn’t come with Carplay. I’ve been doing research and seeing my options on what is possible. I don’t want to install a 3rd Party or old CRV stock head unit- I’d rather just keep my screen. I keep seeing things about USB/HDMI/Flashdrive uploads that would update system. Is that possible (with original head unit)? I think my easiest option would be to Firestick then screen mirror but would that mess would the battery or other integral parts of the car. What is the best/easiest way to try and get Carplay? Or is my only option to replace the head unit?

I can't see how firestick would mess with the battery or other functions. However mirroring is mirroring, it's only going to display and not have any functions like CarPlay or AA. An aftermarket Dasaita headunit ($500 +/-) is the most versatile upgrade to get you CaPlay or AA and is reasonably plug and play. It has all the custom connector cables to your OEM cables for a pretty easy installation. Or, installing a 2015-16 CRV used headunit (eBay) is fully plug and play with your HRV for about $150. It's wired CarPlay but you can add a Ottocast to make it wireless. I've done this to my HRV and it works well. You need to download and upgrade the firmware files (see forum threads) on how to do this. This option ends up at about $250 all in($150 headunit, Ottocast $50, trim bezel $50). So you choices are 1) mirror 2) CRV upgrade $250 or 3) Dasaita $500). Dasaita gives you the most features.
