I use the magnetic mount vent clip by Scosche. It works great but general concern with the vent clip mounts is phone getting too warm in winter (Canada dude here) when the heater is on.
I was using the vent mount but switched to the CD slot mount from Scosche. It holds more securely and does not block the vent but does block most of the screen. I put a metal plate on the back of my phone and also on the back of my Garmin connector (just below the part that the ball usually snaps into). Just can't mount both phone and Garmin at the same time.

That vent doesn't close - located between wheel and touchscreen. I think that the solution is to run floor/defrost combo instead of front vents - I was seeing if anyone else had same concern. Having said this my thoughts are that this IS the best location for a phone mount. For anyone wondering the Kenu airvent clip works too but find that short trips it becomes a pain to mount and unmount where the magnet style is good for all situations

Hi all

Recently, I leased a 2019 HRV Touring model.

2 questions:
1. What is the best phone holder / mount?
2. Where is the best place to mount it?

The vent directly to the right of the steering wheel would be ideal BUT it blocks the vent. And because I am leasing, I don't want to stick anything to the dash.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

If you have an audio system with a CD slot you could use a CD slot mount. I used the one in the attached phot when I used my mobile for satnav, however, since I've upgraded my TomTom I use a slimmer version for when watching videos and YouTube when parked up for rest breaks et al

The mobile phone slots on either side of the centre console are big enough to accommodate a Samsung S9 in a jelly case!

The problem with vent mounted mobile holders is the hot air being blown on to the phone can cause them to over heat during cold weather. Also, if you attach the metal disc directly on to the phone it can cause issues with some of the phones sensors and again can cause overheating issues.

Brodit holders were very popular and highly recommended on my previous vehicles owners forum, and although I personally thought they were expensive for what they were, at least you can still keep the mounting point and just buy the appropriate adaptor if and when you change your mobile;

I saw this on AliExpress today. Looks like it might solve someone's problem.

My phone has a silicone case which mitigates both issues

My vehicle does not have factory fit satnav, nor is the head unit Android Auto compatible. I tend to use my mobile for local and fairly routine journeys and my TomTom for longer and more complex journeys. Unfortunately, the HR-V lacks the lidded dash top storage that I found really useful on my previous vehicle for both storing and displaying my satnav;
(not my image, nor my vehicle, but similar set up to mine!)

For various reasons; cable management, clutter free HU display, dash contours, screen reflections at night et al, this is the set up I ran with up until fairly recently.

The one major downside to this set up was the TomTom was too far away to be used safely whilst travelling solo; voice recognition software is still getting to grips with Glaswegian accents!
The above set up was acceptable, until I upgraded my Samsung S9 to an A52s 5G. The much bigger screen brought a much bigger weight penalty which overwhelmed the CD slot mounts ability to hold it steady, so a new solution was required.

After doing a fair bit of research I tried an iOttie One Touch 5. Unfortunately, its major selling point (being multi adjustable) was, for me, its major weakness. The combination of 3 points of adjustment, and its cheap thin plastic construction resulted in various squeaks and creaks, which I could not put up with.

I purchased a Quadlock and universal adaptor to use with my mobile, and its more sturdy construction and shorter over hang was a revelation compared to the iOttie.

After using it on a number of journeys with no issues, this got me thinking that I would really like to have just the one mount for both my TomTom and mobile. Contacted Quadlock to ask if they intended doing mounts for satnavs, and received the reply of, "No can do!". So after a bit of fettling, I came up with my own mount which still uses the TomTom magnetic mount, whilst still giving access to the charging port, and being fully adjustable.

From my driving position, both my mobile and satnav, sit below the windscreen, so no part of my forward vision is obscured.

I've since contacted Quadlock and told them it can be done with a bit of simple modification, so will wait and see if, and how they respond. So far I am a happy bunny!🐰
