My wife just called me with this exact same warning light showing in the car. She has driven home (slowly) and after about 10 minutes of driving the warning has disappeared. The car had been sitting parked in the sun, (very hot day in Australia) and the warning light was on when she started the car. Our only thought is that the car has gotten so hot that the CTBA sensors are unable to function as it has gotten outside its operating range, (the warning does have a little thermometer logo beside it?), and once she has been driving for a while it has cooled down and the warning light has disappeared. I know you get warnings about temperature operating ranges for electronics/laptops etc, so I assume this car sensor may be the same?? I will be checking the manual when I can and also be following up with Honda on the next service.
My HR-V was in the hot sun today and that warning came up and when it cooled down it went away

We have had similar problems in hot weather in Sydney (Australia), starting a few months ago and intermittent until a 40+C (115F) day when it stayed on.
Recent Service reported the car battery was in poor condition - I declined their expensive battery option and decided to do it "soon".
Call to their service dept. oday to confirm the warning was not dangerous confirmed that, BUT also gave me the hint that a failing car battery is 95% of the time, the cause.
Today is a cooler day and the CTBA light was out, however I just had the battery replaced - Lets see if it stays out.
I will endeavour to update the forum in 1 months time.

I went to Honda with the same problem with my 3 year old HRV, they said I need a new battery. After a new battery the problem went away until today, 18 mths later. I hope it's just the heat that has caused it & not another, so called faulty battery or something more sinister. I live in WA, 34 degree day, which is not that hot for us however I was parked in the sun & had a sun visor up.

Hi, I have a 2019 HRV with the CTBA warning light coming on intermitantly, I found that replacing the Battery cured this problem, It seems that Honda use this as a warning sign of a failing battery. Hope this helps cure your problem.

I am from erth some thing. 2019 HRV needed a new battery in 2022. Fixed problem until today, now it's back again. Aagh

My CTBA warning light has come on 3 times in the 3+ years that we have owned the car.

The only time the battery has been changed, was during a Service when Honda said it was not up to scratch. There was no CTBA light beforehand to indicate it required changing.
When the CTBA light has been activated, the car has been parked in the sun (35C and above) with a windscreen shade to protect the dash and cool the car. It does take awhile for the sensor to cool down and the light to go out, but in that time you just have to be mindful, that the city brake will not work if you get too close to another car and forget to brake.

I use a CTek MXS 5.0 on my battery every 4 weeks, I have a note on my PC calendar to remind me.

Hi Guys,
Has anyone seen this hazard come on their HRV before? Its something to do with the City Break Assist feature, just wondering has anyone fixed this themselves or had to take it to Honda for a service?
This has to be covered by warranty if I'm not mistaken?
Yes CTBA is often triggered by a failing car battery. Have your battery checked (and be prepared to replace it). It also seems to be triggered by very hot weather - coming on and then next time I start the car, it is gone..
I was warned of failing battery by the dealer after a service, but chose to seek a battery at a better price. Before I 'got around to it ' CTBA came on, and this time stayed on !
I had battery checked, it had failing cells. Replaced battery, CTBA warning went away and here we are 1 month later ... and it is still healthy ie no warnings.

That leads me to assume CTBA warning is being falsely triggered by poor batter condition. It would seem to be a problem that could be fixed with a little software upgrade.
Hey Mr. Honda ... are you listening ?

Mine seems to come on when it is extremely hot weather what can I do?
Wind all the windows down turn A/C on full blast and start driving, once the A/C is blowing really cold air, wind up the windows - turn on recirculate and direct air onto windscreen. The CTBA will reset once it cools down.

If driving in city/town traffic, just be aware that the CTBA will not operate if you get too close to the car in front and he stops suddenly and you are not paying attention.

City-Brake Active System (CTBA): operating at speeds between 5 and 32 km/h, CTBA used a radar sensor located in the rear view mirror to monitor.

Interesting reading I also have experienced CTBA warning so load tested battery to find in average condition, trickle charged and noticed warning light did not display despite car being parked in direct sun temps 39 + I also note for some time there has been a slight lag in the throttle and also l central locking a little sluggish, now the battery has been topped up for the moment as will purchase a new one before the winter months all three problems have improved

Just wanted to chip in here and say that the issue was the battery for me. We had the CTBA warnings for about a week, and then I noticed that the battery was ever so slightly struggling when turning over. Tested the battery and was only reading 10.5v. Replaced the battery and everything is solved.

Only saw this warning in the past when the camera overheated in the sun so that can be a legitimate reason. More persistent errors are likely related to the battery.

Do you use something like the CTEK MXS 5.0 every couple of weeks to keep your battery in good order?
The HRV is reknown for the battery dying when it is not maintained, I use my CTEK MXS 5.0 at least once every 3 weeks.
If you search the forum you will find a lot of complaints about battery failures.

I carry one of these in the boot;

This is it being used to jump start a dead Scooby/

I was told today that it is my low battery
The sensor can overheat if the car is sitting in the sun and it is very hot, e.g. 30C.
Your battery will lose voltage if you do not lock the car when not in use, the car is always looking/searching for the key fob. Best way to overcome that problem is turn on the "walk away locking system".
