Same case with my HRV2015 , for 2 years now , rainwater enters the tailgate and accumulates at the weather strip and if excessive the water goes into the spare tire well via the tailgate strike area. I plan on boring 2 holes at the inside half of the weather strip to drain down the water . I suspect the gasket of the taillight garnish having shrunk after 2 years.
Had a similar issue where water was getting into the c-pillar in the driver's side and running down the headliner and seatbelt where it exits the headliner. So much so that the seat is completely soaked and stained. During a heavy rainstorm I peeled back the rear DS weatherstripping and popped out the plastic on the c pillar and saw the water dripping down from the roof right where the hatch and body meet. I inspected the gutter (under the removeable black vinyl strip that runs front to back), but didnt notice anything. Dealer inspected and found sealant in the middle of the gutter had shrunk and cracked. Still waiting on time to prove that their repair fixed the issue.

Our dealership told us that the water sloshing in our rear hatch door was caused by a seam seal that failed. Terribly disappointed in the way it was handled. Hopefully there will a recall based on manufacturer defect and we will be recompensated.
I have the same problem and I have water in my back lights. Did you get this resolved? I have a 2016 HRV

I also have this situation and can only drain part of the water.

With that much water leaking you should be able to figure out where the leak is.

The interior panel of the rear hatch pops out very easily. With the panel removed, you may be able to see water trails and stains of where the leak is.

If nothing is obvious, a small container of water, better than a garden hose, dripped slowly in various spots may lead to the leak.

Someone mentioned that water can leak into the rear hatch from under the rear hatch spoiler.
This is true. I hate the way the spoiler attaches to the rear hatch.
Plastic pop pins holding the spoiler on go right into the hatch metal frame.
It's a terrible design and the spoiler is not held onto the rear hatch that securely.
If water leaks into the middle pop pin holes, the inside of the rear hatch window could also be wet.

Removing the rear spoiler quite simple. 2 people is best.
Just be careful since the spoiler is plastic and needs a fair bit of force to release it from the 8 or so pop pins.
The spoiler pop pins are a unique design and quite durable.
None broke when I removed our rear hatch spoiler to eliminate it's rattling and to tint the 3rd brake light in the spoiler.
I benefited a lot, I'll try it tomorrow.

With this issue, folks have come up with a pretty easy fix/DIY. Will save you money as you will lose thousands trading in this car.
what’s the DIY fix?

Has anyone had any water accumulation in the rear hatch door? When opening and closing the hatch we can hear water sloshing around. We pulled one of the panel clips loose and were able to drain off most of the water any ideas out there?
Yes! 2017 HRV. We had some heavy rain and now I hear water in there. Pulled the plugs and drained it out.

I tried to mill using Dremel four 1/8" holes through the weather strip to drain the leak but its dripping at about center now going into the Catch into the spare wheel well . Finally i used Flowable silicon into the spoiler and also lower part of the glass . The inside is now dry even after downpours .
The stripped tailgate picture is from a seller in Indonesia .

Do your HRVs have drain plugs at the bottom of the lift gate? There are two on my 2017. The one in the picture is on the right. It's a small plastic rectangular piece that can be pried off with a plastic trim tool.

All HRV tailgate models have that vent , mine is clear of dirt and the water does not reach there , it is clinging to the black plastic wall material and falls to the weather strip . There is no large deposit that can be heard swoshing or pours when the tailgate is opened .
